AND THAT IS HOW YOU USE AN EFFECTS PEDAL
I was gaping the entire song this is insane
There’s a sweetness in the sadness
a mellow in the melancholy
a flicker of fantasy
in the shadow of a past
that may or may not be fixed in fiction
a madeup memory
and I could swear I hear a melody in that echo of the whisper in my mind
that sounds a lot like the sound of my name
from your lips

Salinger feels like home
In fact, you’re kind of better off if you don’t. Less pain, less longing, less brightness, right? But there’s this big question mark. You’ll never know what it is you’re missing. You know you’ve locked a door but you have no idea the hallways and attics and windows and doors and tunnels that it leads to.
So if you want to not feel, don’t feel. But just know that while you’re busy not feeling pain, you’re also not feeling love, grace, beauty, and all the reallife magics of happiness on a level you didn’t even know existed.
Can I tell you a secret? As someone who’s hinges are rusty from years of locking away, and as someone who’s feeling the light in the most shadowed corners of places I never knew even existed,
it’s worth it.
Feeling, seeing, touching, art. It’s worth it.
Love is worth it.
This is Ke$ha’s song ‘Blow’ without the auto tune crap.
It’s kind of haunting
We tell big dark truths and little white lies. We surprise ourselves and prove other people right. We sing corrupted songs and scream beautiful prose. We mark, and erase, and are marked and erased.
We remember. We swear we’ll never forget. We get bored, distracted, captivated, excited, burnt out, and bored. We forget. We conceal, we display; we hide in plain sight. We run to and we run from and we wander and we dance and we stumble and we sometimes try to stand still, just to watch the world zoom by and try to moderate the headrush of it all, whether it’s gleaming with sparkles dripping with dread or buzzing with sensory overload.
We break things on accident or just to watch the pieces scatter. We stand over shattered parts because there’s something strangely beautiful about how light hits broken edges. We cut ourselves trying to fix them, bend trying to keep them together, and bruise trying to remember why it’s so important to do so. But we try.
We try. We fail. Or worse, we succeed. At the wrong things. At our own plans. We are because of ourselves and we are in spite of ourselves. We give up on the right and the inevitables become almosts and almosts become shouldn’t haves.
Why do we do the things we do? Is it the human condition, or just a byproduct?
As long as there’s love, as long as there’s hope, and as long as you believe with everything you have…
every uncorrupted flame of determination, every momentary flashback of the thing or time or place or person that made nothing else matter, every trophy, every bruise, every broken edge… the light will find it, and as it catches your eye, you’ve just been shown a reason to keep trying.

Played Room 5 tonight & I’m crazy about them & I can’t wait for their record to come out & you all have to love them like I do & I know you will.
It’s like if Portishead and Nirvana had a baby.
That went to camp in Guns N Roses territory.
Broken people painting, to them, whole pictures
which are all messy parts of the same important story,
picture parts all based on limited vision but this common inherent feeling of ‘greater’
and elusive knowledge of ‘whole’,
almost a nostalgia of a foreshadowing sort.
See, it seems sparked by the collective memory, remembrance of things they’ve never done, and homesickness for places they’ve never been.
And these nevers are not for lack of trying. These nevers are due to, on the part of the memories and places, lack of existence.
And this nonexistence is not for lack of seeking, because we’ve found it.
We just can’t touch it. But we feel it. We can’t see it, but it’s burned in our minds like the spots of sun in your eye once you look down at your shoes after making eye contact with fire.
So it exists.
But only to the point of proving itself to the individual. The broken person. Who then picks up a paintbrush to try and see what we’re seeing.
