the laughter rings through the wooden restaurant, like we were the only ones in there. we very well could’ve been if you asked us. silence fills our dwindling smiles; joy fading to mellow from the shared laugh just a moment ago. down to my hand, tucked inside his, he spoke in a voice from which the laughter’s now faded, “do me one favour, love?” captivated by his shift, I inquire “hm?” he waits. through the tops of my lashes, I slide my curious eyes into his. he answers, “remember this.” he uncurls his fingers, just to slide them through the windows between mine. “remember how good this is.. what we have. it’ll get hard, you know that.” and I do know that. we haven’t seen the difficulty, and the tragedy, and the frustration. he sees it crawl from my mind into my skin. “..so let’s fight it. fight for it together. because it won’t be easy, but don’t waste time fighting each other. let’s not make it harder than it has to be. fight beside each other, for this. love, just… remember this.”
