currently in the air. soaring to the other coast, and listening to a couple tracks that are new to my library. One came after the other on Shuffle, and I noticed a sliver of a similarity. In both of the songs, the vocal levels aren’t insanely prominent. I feel like in a lot of popular music, the singer’s track stands punchily on a bed of synths and instruments. These two defy that, one just barely, and one very blatantly.

“Generation” -States her vocal tone and performance are intriguing in themselves, but while being subtly tucked and letting the percussion and guitars tell their stories, the song is something I want to close my eyes to. [and side note, the whole “Line ‘Em Up” EP by States is great. she just dances through awesome lyrics, each instrument is great while collaboratively adding to the song as a whole, and again, intriguing production/ mixing. The song “Falling For” is uniquely catchy, the harmonies in “Asleep” are quite magical, and her falsetto in general is so well utilized, just throwing that in there.]

“Bright Side” -Levek the lyrics on this one, if even existent, are pretty indecipherable. but that isn’t to say the vocals don’t communicate; they’re equal parts delicately ethereal, joyful, and haunting. Again, their level is very low, and they’re layered nicely, while almost blending into the instrumentation of the song. “Is.. is that a violin or what? Shhh. Wait, what am I hearing? Oh. oh! That’s the singer. that is singing! well, nice.”
