that bluesy, classic rock-influenced track I’ve been talking about? Chase & I finished the “final mix” tonight. we always quote DiVinci when we near this point in production: “Art is never finished, only abandoned.”

for two hours tonight we were ‘about done’, but I always found one more thing that I had to tweak. there’s always that vocal level that needs to be brought down, a pinch of reverb that just has to be added, an area that could use a more prominent bassline.. but finally we sealed it off, and burned our final mix. we’ll send it to be mastered soon, the first time this song has left our home studio, and I’m going to pitch it to a project in mind. once we get it back, I’d like to possibly look into releasing it on iTunes or something..

In the meantime, I wanted to introduce you. This song is named “Made of Matches” and it’s a two-minute track; it’s short but it packs a punch. I thought it’d be cool to have the guitar do some singing, so there’s a hefty balance of powerchords and instrumental melody leading into the verses and bridge [a la Jonny Lang]. vocally, it’s a rough, classic rock sound [think Joan Jett meets Grace Potter], and we included gang vocals in the bridge for a playful, almost vengeful- mockery vibe.

the song talks about a girl who wants people to know her name. she’s narcissistic, and cutthroat, and will stop at nothing to get eyes on her. the verse says that “She sets fires just to watch them burn.”, but this chick isn’t aware of the damage she’s doing to herself in doing damage to everything around her. The chorus is:

That girl’s made of matches

and she wants to light her name until it catches.

too close to be playing around,

she’s gonna burn herself to the ground.
