summer?!

the word summer gives me butterflies. days full of friends, friends full of time, and time full of opportunities to make it last. bright sunshine; brighter eyes. breezy days; breezier clothes. loud music; louder voices.

you’re in the homestretch.. staying up a bit later, cutting jeans into shorts, pulling your hair back to get some of that delicious sunshine on your skin. all you need to kick off Summer 2011 is a soundtrack.

The Summer Set clearly knows how to jam a good summer set, and their new track “Someone Like You” is no exception. after their Love Like This record, they were supplied with this fuel that added a completely different dimension to their music. I won’t lie. Being buddies with this group of kids has it’s advantages, namely previewing their new record “Everything’s Fine” in a Denny’s parking lot. I personally adore the production. Unconventional, but still fun & irresistible to sing along to; light, but with a soul.

If you wanna dance, give Jessie J’s track “Who’s Laughing Now?” a spin. My friend & I choreographed a number to it in the backseat of a car on a road trip last weekend. How is that even possible? Evidently, it just is; that song makes you move. I also wander around doing the little vocal hook. I tell ya.. anyone else is just making noises with their face, but Jessie’s poking victorious, catchy fun. I dig.

so, “Keep Me In Mind” by Zac Brown Band, because I recently discovered.. waiiit, there’s nothing wrong with a good country song. it’s may be one of three that I own, but I can’t turn it off. it’s genuine, and fun, and longing, and let’s be honest.. singing along with a thick drawl makes us all feel like you’re stepping into a worn pair of cowboy boots and strutting some boulevard. [that can’t just be me..? don’t lie.]

also, “New In Town” by Little Boots is cavity-inducing Europop for a gnarly musical sweet tooth. “Betty” by Brooke Fraser owns electric folk. it’ll pinch you between the snaps until it lifts you at the first chorus and coasts you about. & “Shake Me Down” by Cage The Elephant has this elusive quality. mellow, but still energetic.

ahhh. sounds like summer.
